Lan and Jack have a dream in common - to start studying at university next year.

Time flies and these two best friends, who have lived with us since they were 6 and 7 years old respectively, are now ready to start their university applications.

They have lived with us and grown up together for 12 years so it's no wonder they have many common interests - both love football, sports and music and both are really good at playing both guitar and piano.
Now they have started their last years at high school and in the autumn it is time to apply to university.

Lan has chosen to apply for educations in sports and health issues and in the English language.
Jack will apply for educations in business administration, tourism industry and in sports and health issues.

Brief about the application process

They will start their applications as early as September 2024 and will hopefully be notified if they have been accepted sometime in May/June 2025. They will go through several different steps and different processes with special college exams, submission of portfolios and interviews at various universities.

In order for them to have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, we are now looking for sponsors for their scholarship.
You can download information about Lan and Jack and the courses they want to apply for below.
If you are interested in giving them this opportunity, you can contact Susanne Janson at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com

In June/July these fantastic young people will begin their university studies./I juni/juli påbörjar dessa tre fantastiska ungdomar sina universitetsstudier.

(In Swedish below)

On Friday, these three fantastic young people will graduate from high school and in June/July they will begin their university studies.

It is with great pride and joy that we can tell you that all three - Ploy, Aum and Petch - have been informed that they have been accepted to university.

They got accepted in step 1 - on their work samples and grades with subsequent interviews.

Ploy will study Aerospace Engineering at King Mongkut's University in Bangkok.
Aum will study Communication Arts at Mahasarakhan University in Khon Khen.
Petch will study Sport Science and Health Promotion at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University in Nakhon Phatom.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have chosen to make their university studies possible by sponsoring their education - it is thanks to their own hard work and your commitment that this is possible.

Finally, we would also like to thank all of you who support all the children at Happy Child Home and are involved in giving them the opportunity to grow up in a safe, loving environment with the opportunity to go to school and to receive help and support with homework and studies. An environment that creates space for faith in the future and dreams for the future.

Aum has been accepted to study Communications Art!/Aum är antagan att studera Communcations Art!

This is the face of a very happy, soon to be, University student!

(In Swedish below)

We are happy and proud to tell that Aum has been accepted to Mahasaraskhan University to study Bachelor of Communications Arts - which was her first choice.

And she made it into the first round!
The first round consists of sending in your portfolio with basic information about yourself, grades and extracurricular activities and achievements directly to the university.
If the university considers that you have performed well enough, you will be called for an interview - which she was.
The interview took place online and the day after the interview she was informed that she had been accepted.

We're not the least bit surprised.
Aum is, and has always been, very artistic.
She is intelligent and very focused.
She is also humble, funny and a loyal friend.

Now we need to find her sponsors!
If you are interested in helping our amazing Aum realize her dream, which she has worked so hard for, you can contact me at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com
Information about Aum’s education and about sponsorships here.

Och hon kom in i första rundan!

Ploy has been accepted to study Aerospace engineering! Ploy är antagen att studera Aerospace engineering!

This is the face of a very happy girl!

We are happy and proud, but not the least bit surprised, to tell you that Ploy has been accepted to King Mongkut's University to study Aerospace Engineering Thai/Eng program - which was her first choice.

And she made it in the first round!
The first round consists of sending in your portfolio with basic information about yourself, grades, extracurricular activities and achievements directly to the university. If the university considers that you have performed well enough, you will be called for an interview - which she was.
There were 80 students who were called for an interview and of these 80, 25 would be selected.
Just under a week after the interview, she was informed that she had been admitted.

As I said, we are not the least bit surprised.
Ploy managed to achieve top marks in all subjects last term, which she is the first of our children to achieve. She is intelligent, focused, curious and inquisitive and she is not afraid to take on and work hard. She is also humble, a loyal friend and has lots of humor.
So, as Lasse Tenerz so rightly pointed out, "if not her, who?"

Now we need to find her sponsors! If you are interested in helping our amazing Ploy realize her dream, which she has worked so hard for, you can contact me at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com
More information about Ploy’s education and about sponsorship here.

Och hon kom in i första rundan!

Many thanks to Söderberg & Partners for the fifth year in a row!

We are extremely grateful that Söderberg and Partners have chosen to support us for the fifth year in a row and that they have chosen to support our children through their Corporate Social Responsibility Program with SEK 100,000 this year as well. Money that we really need as three new children have moved in this year.

Söderberg & Partners and Happy Child have a lot in common and the main common denominator is that we realize the importance of a proper education and work to be able to help children who would otherwise not have that opportunity.
It therefore feels extra fun that this year we can tell you that things are going really well for our university students.
Non has finished his studies and can today call himself an architect with a top job for an architectural firm in Phuket, Nun has started his fourth and final course in Aviation business management, Fon has started his third year in nursing training and Team has started his third year in cooking training.
This year Dee and Fuse have joined our university crowd - they have just started their first year studying Sport and Health Science.
Now it's Ploy, Aum and Petch's turn, who have started their applications to the university. Ploy wants to study engineering, Aum wants to study Art of Communication or psychology and Petch wants to train as a gym teacher.
None of them would have even had the opportunity to dream of university studies if it weren't for all of you who choose to support us and our children in our everyday lives.

We would like to conclude by saying for the fifth year in a row a big thank you to everyone at Söderberg & Partners for your trust in, and enabling of, our work. You create security and faith in the future for us and our children.

Petch came to us 12 years ago when he was 6 years old, Ploy came to us 11 years ago when she was 7 years old and Aum became part of our family 8 years ago when she was 10 years old.

Ploy wants to study engineering, Petch wants to become a sports teacher and Aum wants to study communication (rhetoric, presentation) or psychology.
Three young people and three completely different choices based on what they as individuals are interested in and what they want to devote their future adult life to.

Brief about the Application process
Ploy, Aum and Petch have chosen three completely different specializations, but the application process will be done in roughly the same way for all three.
They will start their applications as early as September 2023 and will hopefully be notified if they have been accepted sometime in May/June 2024.
They will go through several different steps and different processes with special university exams, submission of portfolios and interviews at different universities.

Thank you Söderberg & Parners!

We are so extremely grateful that Söderberg and Partners have chosen to support us for the fourth year in a row and that they have chosen to support our children through their Corporate Social Responsibility Program with SEK 100,000 again this year.
Money that we really need as it has moved in four new children in the last month and we fear that there may be more in need of help post-Covid.

Söderberg & Partners and Happy Child have a lot in common and the main common denominator is that we realize the importance of a proper education and work to be able to help children who otherwise would not have that opportunity. It therefore feels extra fun that this year we have been able to tell Södeberg & Partners that things are going really well for our four university students - Non who has just submitted his final project and who soon can call himself an architect and start looking for a job, Nun who soon will start his third year out of four in Aviation business management, Fon who has started her second year in studying to become a Nurse and Team who has started her second year studying to become a  Chef. And that this autumn it is Dee and Fuse's turn to start their applications to the university.

Dee and Fuse have a common dream - to study Sport and Health Science.

Now it's Dee and Fuse's turn to fulfill their dreams to study at university.

They have just started their final year at high school and by the autumn it is time for them to start with their applications.
Dee came to us ten years ago when he was 7 years old and Fuse became part of our family six years ago when he was 11 years old.
These two gentlemen quickly became close friends and share the same interests, so it is perhaps not so strange that they want to apply for the same education - Bachelor of Sport Science. They are both extremely interested in sports so we think it is fantastic that they have found a university education where they can develop their interest in sports into a profession.

Briefly about the Education
The education provides knowledge and skills in physiology, psychology, motor control / learning and biomechanics. By understanding how people perform, sports and training researchers can design, monitor and evaluate training programs to help athletes and coaches reach their maximum potential.
After completing your studies, you can work as a physiotherapist, training instructor or coach at health facilities, or as a sports scientist at various ministries and ministries, or as a gymnastics teacher or as a university teacher in just Sport and Health Science.

In order for them to have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams, we are now looking for sponsors for their scholarship.
If you are interested in giving Dee and Fuse this opportunity, you can contact Susanne Janson at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com for more information.

New Year's magic

How is New Year's magic created? Well, you gather the world's best kids, the world's best staff and absolutely wonderful friends to celebrate New Year's Eve.

You have a large family where everyone is helping out with the preparations.
You let the older children arrange and hold all games and competitions. You have the world's best Miaoo and Porn in the kitchen who, together with the children and staff, arrange a wonderful New Year's buffet. And last but not least, you have fantastic friends who want to come and celebrate with us. Then New Year's magic is created!

Our celebration started already in the morning with all the preparations and then the partying continued uninterrupted until you could not take it anymore.
At 14.00 our games and competitions started and they were many and fun thanks to our older children's fantastic imagination and ingenuity.
It was a short break for ice cream but then it just continued with even more crazy and fun games. And everyone wanted to join, children as well as adults.

At six o'clock it was time for this year's New Year's buffet and guess if we ate - everyone had worked up a real hunger with all the games and the food was, as always, wonderfully delicious.
You would think that dinner would calm down the party, but no! With new energy after dinner, the fun started again.
We celebrated the children who had had their birthday in the last 6 months and the traditional New Year's gift lottery was launched. After that, the children held a crazy fashion show and after the fashion show, the children had arranged a very difficult Thai version of the Mexican Pinatan. A Mexican Pinata is made of papier mache’, our Thai variant was made of a cardboard box well sealed with strong brown tape - so they really had to work hard to get it down. But of course they succeeded.

After the conquest of Pinatan, it was already 10.30 pm and some of us started to get tired, but far from all. Poker, Klara, Vera, Douglas and Agnes went home after Pinatan and then it was our turn to give up. But rumours has it that some of our children celebrated all night long - they continued with kareokee, dancing, and watching movies.

I wish it was possible to transfer the feeling and the atmosphere but is unfortunately impossible. Neither pictures nor words can do them justice, because after all, it is not the content that determines whether New Year's magic is created - it is the people.

I am so incredibly grateful and proud of our fantastic kids - how they help each other, take care of each other and how everyone can and wants to be a part of the fun.
I am just as grateful and proud of our amazing staff who give our children the opportunity to develop into these kind, generous, welcoming, open, helpful, wonderfully crazy individuals, each with their very own personality.
I am so grateful that our Owen was finally able to return to his Thai family and celebrate New Year with us, that Lasse and parts of his family were finally able to return to us and that Poker and Klara and their children Vera, Douglas and Agnes had the opportunity to come and celebrate New Year with us.
I am grateful that I got to experience the integration between our children and Vera, Douglas and Agnes.
To see how our children welcome them to the family, and how Vera, Douglas and Agnes choose to be a part, even if they do not always understand everything.
To see our teenagers' curiosity about Vera and Douglas and their curiosity about our children. How they find a way to communicate even though many of our children are a little embarrassed when it comes to speaking English.
To see how Agnes and Faa, who are of the same age, find each other without having a common language - or perhaps because they actually have a common language, even though it does not necessarily have to be English, Swedish or Thai.
It is there, right there, with all these wonderful people that magic is created and together we had the opportunity to end 2021 with the hope of an even better 2022.

We missed a lot of our friends, but we are convinced that we will see each other again soon.

A really Happy New 2022!

Midsummer 2021

IMG_0079.jpeg

Yesterday we celebrated Midsummer at Happy Child Home - yes, we know that we celebrate a day too late according to Swedish traditions but it would be difficult to explain to the teachers at school why the children must have a day off on a Friday.

And yes, we may celebrate a day late but we know how to celebrate and I dare say that we probably have the most beautiful midsummer pole in the whole world.
Usually we have our volunteers on site and usually we have lots of friends who come and celebrate with us - not last year though and not this year either and I do not think I need to point out why.

This year we had to celebrate without any volunteers or friends, just like last year - and this year we also had to celebrate without our university students Non, Nun and Fon and our adult "children" Bonut and Nuun and their children. Nun could not come from Chiang Mai and Non could not come from Bangkok as they have not received the vaccine yet and Phuket will only let you in if you are vaccinated. Fon could not come back as she left us last week to start her university studies and as there are no buses from Nakhon Si Tammarath to Phuket at the moment. Bonut had to move to Isan with her children and the children's father a few months ago when there was no job for them on Phuket and I do not know why Nuun did not come.

As there were so many that we missed having with us -  we had to celebrated for them as well, and we did!
Already last year, Hans and I were prepared that there would be no dancing or play around the midsummer pole as we have thought that the children do it for our sake. We were wrong last year and we were wrong again this year. I asked Wow to check with the kids if they really wanted to, and yes they wanted to.

However, we ignored doing it around the midsummer pole as it was out in the scorching sunshine so we danced and played under the sports roof instead - it was “Små grodorna”, “Vi är musikanter", “Prästens lilla kråka” and the children's two favorites" Björnen sover” and “Sista paret ut”

This year's Thai Games were taken care of by our oldest boys - and they did it with gusto!
It is a real blessing to be able to follow all these amazing children through different ages. Just two years ago, it had not been possible to even ask the boys to hold the games - then they were too "cool" to even participate and now, just two years later they are so mature and confident that they  both want to participate and take care of and engage the younger children.

IMG_0076.jpeg
IMG_0097 2.jpeg
IMG_0107.jpeg
IMG_0109.jpeg

As always, it is a wonderful experience to study the children when the whole group is together to do something together - in the way they help each other, how they make sure that everyone feels that they can participate, how they can laugh with, and at each other, how they comfort someone who gets sad and how they kindly reprimand someone who makes mistakes or cheats. This year it was little Gao's turn to be new to the family and everyone did their best to make him feel like one of the gang and made sure to help him a little extra.

After the games, we had a fantastic Midsummer buffet - prepared by Miaoo, Porn, Team and several of the children. After dinner we celebrated birthdays with cake and presents and after that we sang Karaokee.

Welcome to our family - Piccoli & Co

Photo 2020-08-01, 12 13 15.JPG

Some of the best and most important things in life are friends, and we are so happy and grateful for our Monthly Donors and our Friend Companies.

Every time our family grows with a new friend, it feels fantastic and now it has happened again.
Welcome to the family Piccoli!

Piccoli is a family business that sells fantastically fine and high-quality clothes for children aged 0-3 years.
Kristoffer and Nathalie who are behind the company felt that they wanted to be able to help and support children who do not have the same conditions as their own son, so they contacted us.
Now they have decided to help us by donating SEK 50 for each purchase of SEK 500. Something we are incredibly happy and grateful for.

Picolino.jpg

Feel free to go to their website www.piccoli.se or their Instagram account @piccolisweden and botanize in the wonderful clothes and help them help us.

Thank you and welcome Piccoli!

A picture of pure happiness!

They did it - Now everything is set for these two amazing girls!

Team has been accepted to Rajabhat University, Phuket to study "Bachelor of Home Economics (Food and Nutrition)".
Fon has been accepted to Walailak University, Nakhon Si Thammarat to study "Bachelor of Nursing Science".

They have come here themselves through hard study work, searching for the right education and the right university and last but not least through applications consisting of work samples and interviews.
However, all this work would have been in vain if it were not for all of you who have chosen to go in to support them as sponsors of their scholarships.

Many thanks from Team and us to - Alba Care Foundation, The Bjerre Family, Peter F Yacavone Jr and Maria Norberg!
Many thanks from Fon and us to - Alba Care Foundation, City-Kliniken Göteborg, Familjen Bjerre, Maria Norberg, Åsa Sundström, and Maria Jönsson!

We are so very grateful for this and that we also will be seen on the handball team Djurgårdshof's clothes, in which Niclass Björlund, who owns Edition Bjorlund, is involved.

We hope that Niclass and Tina Björlund can come and visit us at

For the 10th time in a row, our fantastic friends at City-Kliniken organized "A day for Happy Child Home" on Saturday 14 November. By helping their patients at the same time as they helped us, they raised 24,000 kronor!

Many thanks, dear friends at City-Kliniken and to all of you who chose to book your treatments on this special day - together you made sure to cover the costs of all our children's healthcare and their hygiene products for a whole year.

THANK YOU!

Team wants to study to become a Chef.

IMG_8539.jpeg

Team is our second girl who will be applying to university in the fall as she graduates from high school in the spring of 2021. Team wants to study to become a chef - and we are not surprised!

Team came to us in 2011 when she was only nine years old. Before she came to us, she had not had the opportunity to go to school, so she could neither read nor write. Being unable to read and write makes it impossible to keep up with other subjects, so it was a girl with very poor confidence who moved in. Team was a fantastic kind little girl but she had a very hard time keeping order.

Team proved to be a real fighter so even though she was two years behind her classmates, she managed to catch up. Her fighting spirit, and the fact that she and Fon became best friends, gave her confidence and she began to believe in herself.
Today, her grades are not only above average, she is also our most orderly child. Her room is clinically clean, she takes great responsibility for the younger children, she loves to help in the kitchen and we love the food she prepares.
If Miaoo and Porn need to be off at the same time, it is Team and no one else that we put in charge of the kitchen as she is not only a good chef but also a fantastic group leader.
If any of the younger children are unruly and refuse to listen, we call on Team, who just needs to look at them to get them to do what she tells them.

Team is not one of our most outgoing children and does not put herself centre stage, but she has a heart of gold, is a loyal friend, is very responsible and has lots of humor. When she cracks one of her smiles or when she laughs from her stomach, you get all warm inside.

As I mentioned before, thanks to her fighting spirit, her grades are above average - 2.73 out of 4 - and her friendly, trustworthy personality has made her one of the students that teachers are happy to include in various projects at the school.

Our beloved Team loves to cook so we are not surprised that she wants to apply for the "Bachelor of Home Economics (Food & Nutrion)" education to become a chef.
The restaurant owner that hires Team will thank his/her lucky star!

For Team to be able to do this, we are now seeking sponsors for her scholarship. If you are interested in giving Team this opportunity, you can contact me at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com for more information.

Fon wants to study to become a doctor or nurse so she can help others - do you want to help her?

IMG_8427.jpeg

Soon it's time for our fantastic Fon to apply to the university. She is leaving high school in spring 2021 and wants to study to become a doctor or a nurse.

Fon has lived with us since 2013 when she, as an 11-year-old, moved in together with her two younger siblings Gun 6 years and Bai-Tuy barely 2 years. She was an unusually mature 11-year-old, as you probably become if you have taken care of your two little siblings for a year and not have been able to  go to school.

Fon and her siblings adapted to their new home very quickly. Fon was finally able to go to school again, and she could go back to be the 11-year-old child she actually was as she got help taking care of her younger siblings, all though she never let go of the responsibility for them.

Fon proved to be more than a fantastic big sister, when she got the opportunity to go back to school she showed that she has a very good head for study and that she is a very good and loyal friend. On top of all that she has a big bag of humor which doesn’t make things less good.
Fon very quickly became best friend with Team. This friendship helped Team gain better confidence and made her more motivated to study as it made her start to believe in herself and her own ability.

It doesn't stop there, one day in high school Fon came and asked if she could accompany a friend and her parents to another province for a week on school holidays. Of course, we wanted to meet the friends' parents before saying yes. We got to meet them and we found out why they had invited her to join - she was invited, not only because she was good friends with their daughter, but because the parents were grateful to Fon for helping her friend in school and for making her friend more motivated in her studies.

In high school, she is one of the school's better students, which in Thailand means that you get more responsibility and that the teachers want you to become a bit of an assistant to them and participate in and plan all the school's activities. In addition, representatives from the municipality came looking for volunteers who could help in the social work of the municipality. And Fon, who wants to help and do things for others, said yes to everything, which made her take on far too much as she also had a lot of schoolwork.

We ended up having to step in and explain to her that she had to start by helping herself so that she could help others later and we had to talk to the municipality and tell them that she had to quit as a volunteer as she herself could not handle leaving a commitment.

This is our Fon - so it is not surprising that she wants to study to become a doctor or a nurse, and that she herself does not see any major difference in these educations - as both mean that she can help others.

For her to be able to do this, we are now seeking sponsors for her scholarship. If you are interested in giving Fon this opportunity, you can contact me at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com for more information.

Söderberg & Partners doubles its support for Happy Child

IMG_1132 copy.2jpg.jpg

It is with great pleasure and gratitude that we can tell that Söderberg & Partners have chosen to continue their support for Happy Child. Not only have they chosen to continue their support through their Corporate Social Responsibility program - they have also chosen to increase the support by 100% from SEK 50,000 in 2019 to SEK 100,000 in 2020.

Söderberg & Partners and Happy Child have a lot in common in our values and the main common denominator is that we recognize the importance of proper education and work to be able to help children who would otherwise not have the opportunity.

Therefore, it feels extra fun to be able to tell Söderberg & Partners about Neng and Non's incredible trips from the orphanage to university education, and that now Nun will also start his university studies this fall.

So for the second year in a row, we would like to extend a big, big thank you to everyone at Söderberg & Partners for your confidence in, and enabling of, our work. You create security and future faith for us and our children.

If you want to read more about Söderberg & Partners and their sustainability work you can do it here.

We are so very grateful for this and that we also will be seen on the handball team Djurgårdshof's clothes, in which Niclass Björlund, who owns Edition Bjorlund, is involved.

In addition, it feels very good that Niclass and Tina Björlund have visited Happy Child Home and we hope that they soon will have the opportunity to visit us again.
