Soon it's time for our fantastic Fon to apply to the university. She is leaving high school in spring 2021 and wants to study to become a doctor or a nurse.
Fon has lived with us since 2013 when she, as an 11-year-old, moved in together with her two younger siblings Gun 6 years and Bai-Tuy barely 2 years. She was an unusually mature 11-year-old, as you probably become if you have taken care of your two little siblings for a year and not have been able to go to school.
Fon and her siblings adapted to their new home very quickly. Fon was finally able to go to school again, and she could go back to be the 11-year-old child she actually was as she got help taking care of her younger siblings, all though she never let go of the responsibility for them.
Fon proved to be more than a fantastic big sister, when she got the opportunity to go back to school she showed that she has a very good head for study and that she is a very good and loyal friend. On top of all that she has a big bag of humor which doesn’t make things less good.
Fon very quickly became best friend with Team. This friendship helped Team gain better confidence and made her more motivated to study as it made her start to believe in herself and her own ability.
It doesn't stop there, one day in high school Fon came and asked if she could accompany a friend and her parents to another province for a week on school holidays. Of course, we wanted to meet the friends' parents before saying yes. We got to meet them and we found out why they had invited her to join - she was invited, not only because she was good friends with their daughter, but because the parents were grateful to Fon for helping her friend in school and for making her friend more motivated in her studies.
In high school, she is one of the school's better students, which in Thailand means that you get more responsibility and that the teachers want you to become a bit of an assistant to them and participate in and plan all the school's activities. In addition, representatives from the municipality came looking for volunteers who could help in the social work of the municipality. And Fon, who wants to help and do things for others, said yes to everything, which made her take on far too much as she also had a lot of schoolwork.
We ended up having to step in and explain to her that she had to start by helping herself so that she could help others later and we had to talk to the municipality and tell them that she had to quit as a volunteer as she herself could not handle leaving a commitment.
This is our Fon - so it is not surprising that she wants to study to become a doctor or a nurse, and that she herself does not see any major difference in these educations - as both mean that she can help others.
For her to be able to do this, we are now seeking sponsors for her scholarship. If you are interested in giving Fon this opportunity, you can contact me at susannejanson.happychild@gmail.com for more information.
